How to Care for Your Hair Extensions at Home: Salon 1827’s Pro Tips

Your hair extensions are more than just a beauty investment—they’re part of your daily confidence, your style, your main character energy. At Salon 1827, we specialize in creating luxurious, damage-free extensions customized to your lifestyle. But once you leave the salon, proper homecare becomes your secret weapon.

Let’s walk through the top things you need to do (and avoid!) to keep your extensions looking flawless between appointments.

Bedtime Routine: Satin Over Stress

Before you hit the pillow, give your extensions a little TLC:

  • Gently brush using an extension-safe brush, focusing carefully on each row and attachment point.

  • Secure your hair in a low, loose braid or ponytail.

  • Sleep on a satin pillowcase to reduce friction and minimize tangles and breakage.

Trust us—satin is the extension girlie’s best friend.

Brushing: Frequently + Gently

Extensions need brushing—but the right kind.

  • 2–3x per day is the sweet spot.

  • Use an extension-safe brush (wet brushes are okay on the ends but avoid the roots).

  • Start brushing from the ends up, and always hold the row at the top while brushing to reduce tension.

This routine helps prevent matting and keeps your hair feeling as good as it looks.

Shampooing: The Right Way (No Upside-Down Washing!)

Shampooing incorrectly can shorten the life of your extensions. Here’s how to wash the Salon 1827 way:

  • Always brush thoroughly before washing.

  • Shampoo twice per wash day using sulfate-free or extension-safe products.

  • Rinse thoroughly.

  • NEVER wash your hair upside down—it leads to tangling that’s nearly impossible to reverse.

  • Condition only the ends, and apply downward with the grain of the hair.

Think of wash day as spa day for your extensions. Take your time—your hair will thank you.

Blow drying & Styling: Moisture + Protection

Healthy styling starts with healthy product choices:

  • Use moisture-replenishing products and a heat protectant every time.

  • Apply to the ends only, avoiding the row or attachment points.

  • Rough dry with your hands with the grain of the hair before going in with your brush or tools.

  • NEVER blow-dry upside down or aggressively. Extensions need gentle handling to thrive.

Things to Avoid: Save This List

A few habits can wreck your extensions fast. Avoid:

  • Saltwater, chlorinated water, or baths with loose hair

  • Overwashing (2–3x/week is plenty!)

  • Sleeping on wet hair

  • Overusing hot tools

  • Sunscreens or tanning sprays with octocrylene or avobenzone — they can turn extensions pink or orange!
